Supplementation of 16mg/kg of a water extract from the stems of _tinospora cordifolia_ for three weeks prior to surgery is able to prevent the surgery-induced reduction in macrophage phagocytosis and intracellular killing capacity although it was not significantly effective in reducing bilirubin.
